Replacing a soft wood timber bay window with a new UPVC one

Our client who lives in Leamington Spa wanted to replace their existing soft wood timber window: it was cold and draughty in the winter and the wood was starting to rot. It was important to try and keep the character of the house so the new 'A' rated UPVC windows were designed to have a transom to split the height of the window in two to mimic a sliding sash window and an astracal Georgian bar was used to reduce the visual size of the centre pane and imitate the original.

To keep their home warmer and more fuel efficient these windows are 'A' rated and the double glazed sealed units use the very latest in glazing technology, that is Planitherm total plus low-e energy saving glass, a warm edged spacer between the panes and an inert gas (argon) to fill the cavity and reduce heat transfer between the outer and inner pane.

To complete the job and finish the front aspect of the house we installed a new bedroom window. Again the proportions were important and so the window was designed with a transom bar in the middle and an astracal Georgian style bar to give it a real traditional look. The lower portion of the window opens outwards to allow ventilation and act as a means of escape in the event of an emergency.
