1st July 2013

From the 1st July 2013 it became mandatory in order to comply with CE marking as per European regulations. We at Rugby Double Glazing are fully CE compliant.

The CE mark is a European symbol introduced in 1993; it is one that consumers associate with reassurance. The CE stands for Conformite Europeene or European Conformity and was intended to enable free movements of goods and products throughout the EU, thus removing barriers to trade.

Under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) from 1st July CE marking is a legal requirement for most construction products, which fall under the scope of a (HEN)Harmonised European Standard (norm) or a European Technical Assessment.

The CPR is enforceable EU wide and there is no opt out clause as there was under the CPD (Construction Products Directive) that the CPR replaced. Therefore, windows, doors and glazed products have to comply to avoid breaking the law.

The aim of the CPR is to clarify the basic concepts of use for CE Marking, to simplify the processes in order to reduce costs for businesses and to increase public credibility for the whole CE marking system.

For the double glazing industry the mandatory CE mark ensures that European wide technical standards are met and quality is complied with. Each supplier must ensure their products are tested to conform to relevant performance levels and therefore achieve and deserve their certification. The system ensures good supply chain and products for customers.

Look for the mark which must be clearly displayed, unblemished, readable and visible, on all windows and doors from 1st July 2013.
